BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Seven films including "The Climbers" will be recommended at a gala held to promote outstanding domestic films for celebrations of the 70th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China (PRC), according to the event sponsors.

"The Climbers" dramatizes the real-life expedition of Chinese mountaineers to ascend Mount Qomolangma in 1960 and 1975.

Also on the recommendation list are "The Captain," a cinematic portrayal of a miraculous emergency landing of the Sichuan Airlines flight 3U8633 in May 2018, and "My People, My Country," which, previously known as "Me and My Motherland" in English, is comprised of seven stories and draws on historical, classic milestones of China in the past 70 years.

Sponsored by the State Film Administration and the China Media Group, the gala will be aired on television around the National Day, which falls on Oct. 1.

"The Climbers," "The Captain" and "My People, My Country" are all set for theatrical release on the Chinese mainland on Sept. 30, a day ahead of the weeklong National Day holiday, according to the China Film Distribution and Exhibition Association.

The remaining four films that are highlighted by the gala are "Mao Zedong 1949," "The Bugle from Gutian," "The Secret of China" and "The Bravest," all of which premiered in China over the past weeks.

"Mao Zedong 1949" retraces the history of 1949 from the Communist Party of China Central Committee moving to the Fragrant Hills in northwest Beijing in the spring to the founding of the PRC on Oct. 1.

Inspired by American journalist Edgar Snow's book "Red Star Over China," the film "The Secret of China" tells of Snow venturing into a town in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, then known as the "red capital" of China, where he interviewed Mao Zedong and other CPC leaders.

"The Bravest," a Chinese feature film putting the spotlight on firefighters, tells of a fire brigade chief and his team members' heroism as fire and an ensuing explosion engulf a coastal area housing oil tanks.
