PARIS, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Britain's departure from the European Union (EU) without a withdrawal deal is still possible, even if Britain has been granted six more months, the French government spokeswoman Sibeth Ndiaye said on Thursday.

"It is not impossible that we could again have a no-deal Brexit," Ndiaye told CNews television.

"We have given an extension during which Britain should come out with a solution as we are not going to resolve the British problems in their place," she said.

Leaders of the EU have extended the Brexit deadline from April 12 to Oct. 31, giving more time to Britain to end the deadlock in the parliament and find the best alternative to exit the bloc.

If the withdrawal agreement is ratified by both parties before the new deadline, the departure will take place on the first day of the following month, which is Nov. 1.

However, if British Prime Minister Theresa May fails to win lawmakers' approval by May 22, Britain has to leave the EU without a divorce deal on June 1.

European leaders gathered in Brussels on Wednesday for an emergency special summit to discuss May's request for a further delay of the Article 50 period.

They planned to review the progress of Brexit at its summer summit in June.
