Search for victims of Lion air crash to resume in Indonesia

          JAKARTA, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Lion Air said on Monday that it will resume search for remains of 64 victims and cockpit voice recorder of the ill-fated flight that crashed on Oct. 29 and killed 189 people onboard.

          Lion Air said in a statement that it hired a Dutch firm to undertake the task to recover the remains and the second black box in the waters of Tanjung Karawang off West Java province, where the brand new Boeing 737 Max 8 plunged into the water just about 13 minutes after taking off from international Soekarno-Hatta airport in Banten province.

          "Lion Air will hire a ship with sophisticated technology to search for the remains of the victims. The mission will also search for the cockpit voice recorder," corporate communication strategic of Lion Air Danang Mandala Prihantoro said in the statement.

          The MPV Everest ship is now in Johor Baru of Malaysia and is scheduled to arrive in the crash site of Tanjung Karawang water on Wednesday, a two-day delay from the previous plan for a weather problem.

          The search, Lion Air said, will be focused on the coordinate where the aircraft went down, and with an operational time for 10 days.

          The resumption of the search by Lion Air is to accommodate the request of family members whose loved ones were dead in the fatal flight.
