PRAGUE, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- About 40 percent of Czech deceased in 2017, or 49,000 out of total of 111,000 deaths, were caused by cardiovascular disease, said a report released by the Institute for Health Information and Statistics (UZIS) on Monday.

The report said compared with 2016, the share of men who died of heart and blood vessels defects slightly decreased in 2017, while the share of women rose.

In the 1990s, 57 percent of women and 53 percent of men died of cardiovascular disease. The shares have been gradually declining since and reaching 43 percent of women and 40 percent of men in 2017.

Obese people and people with diabetics, high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels are at greater risk of dying of cardiovascular disease, according to the report.
