LONDON, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- British vehicle manufacturing dropped 9.8 percent in October, with 15,255 fewer cars produced compared with the same period last year, Britain's Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said on Thursday.

Domestic car production fell 12.1 percent in October, the fifth consecutive month of decline, with 24,246 cars produced in Britain, while overseas demand also decreased, down 9.3 percent in October.

Year-to-date output in 2018 fell 6.9 percent compared with the same period a year ago.

"The fifth consecutive month of decline for UK car manufacturing is undoubtedly concerning, while a number of factors have been at play, there is no doubt that business and consumer uncertainty is having a significant impact," SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes said.

He said that Europe was the largest trading partner for Britain's car sector, adding "securing the right Brexit agreement which allows free and frictionless trade is vital for the future health of our industry."
