ANKARA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces confirmed that two suspects who fired on the U.S. Embassy in Ankara were drunk at the time of the attack, local media reported on Tuesday.
The suspects Ahmet Celikten and Osman Gudas have confessed that they attacked the embassy under the influence of alcohol, state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing security sources.
The two Turkish nationals, who have criminal records, were nabbed late Monday. A 9 mm pistol and the vehicle they used in the attack were also found.
The attack took place at 5:30 a.m. local time (0230GMT) on Monday, when six shots were fired from a white vehicle at the U.S. embassy's main entrance.
Turkish Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin condemned the attack on Twitter, describing it as "a clear attempt to create chaos," amid an escalating row between the United States and Turkey over the detention of a U.S. pastor.
