JAKARTA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian inflation in 2017 accelerated at a faster face compared with that in the previous year as food prices and transportation cost rose, the national statistics bureau announced here on Tuesday.

Consumer price index increase reached 3.61 percent for 2017 compared with 3.02 percent in 2016, head of the bureau Kecuk Suhariyanto said.

"Annually, this figure remains good, as it is below that on the target in the state development budget," he revealed.

More spending by consumers for Christmas and New Year celebration also contributed to the annual inflation acceleration in December, he said.

Core inflation rate excluding volatile food and administered prices slowed to 2.95 percent in 2017 from 3.07 percent in 2016, said Suhariyanto.

The Indonesian government has attempted to increase purchasing power in the country, where consumption accounts for more than half of gross domestic product growth, including the issuance of policy to keep electricity and fuel prices stable in the first quarter of this year.
