MALE, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Maldivian government on Tuesday reiterated its invitation to opposition parties to participate in all-party talks as the government had received no response to its multiple invitations.

"The government notes with disappointment that despite issuing invitations a total of eight times... no response has been received from these political parties," the President's Office said in a statement.

"The government stands ready and willing to engage in open and frank dialogue with all relevant stakeholders in the hopes of alleviating some of the political discord present in the Maldives today," said the statement.

The Maldivian parliament on Feb. 20 approved extending the state of emergency by 30 days following a request by President Abdulla Yameen.

The President's Office said the president had requested for an extension as the threat to national security had not diminished following the Supreme Court ruling on Feb. 1 ordering the release of detained opposition leaders, including self-exiled former President Mohamed Nasheed.
