ABUJA, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate overhaul of national security strategies to address escalating armed attacks in the country.
"Enough is enough," Tinubu told a meeting of the country's security chiefs in Abuja, the capital, on Wednesday.
He condemned recent attacks, particularly those in the central states of Benue and Plateau and the northeastern Borno state.
"President Tinubu is insisting that we work harder to restore security in the country," National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu told the media after the high-level meeting.
He said that Tinubu has ordered a new approach to tackling the security challenges.
At least 52 people were reported killed in the Bokkos local government area of Plateau in the past two weeks, while the death toll of attacks by suspected armed herders in Benue has risen to at least 72 since last Thursday.
There have also been recurring incidents of livestock rustling and armed banditry in the country. ■
