          WASHINGTON, May 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Treasury announced on Wednesday it has imposed sanctions on three Iran-related entities and six Iranians, accusing them of involvement in human rights abuses.

          It was the latest round of sanctions imposed by the Trump administration on Iran following the U.S. withdrawal from the landmark Iran nuclear deal earlier this month.

          The designated entities were Tehran's Evin prison, Ansar-e Hezbollah group and the Hanista programing group. Three individuals related to Ansar-e Hezbollah and director of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting were also included on the designation list.

          "Treasury is taking action to hold the Iranian regime accountable for ongoing human rights abuses, censorship, and other despicable acts it commits against its own citizens," said U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a statement.

          The sanctions would freeze any assets that a blacklisted person or entity holds under U.S. jurisdiction and ban any U.S. individuals or companies from making business deals with them.

          The United States exited the Iran nuclear deal in early May and began re-imposing U.S. sanctions that had been lifted under the deal. Washington's move has been criticized widely by the international community.
