DUBLIN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- A Canadian tourist died after he fell off the highest mountain Carrauntoohil in Ireland, reported local media RTE on Wednesday.

The incident happened at about 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon Ireland time when local rescue department received a phone call from a woman saying her husband fell off the mountain.

Rescue team rushed to the site shortly after the incident was reported.

Over 20 people were involved in the search operation which was coordinated by Irish Coast Guard, said the report.

It took the rescue team nearly six hours to locate the body of the man due to poor visibility resulting from fog and low cloud in the mountain, said the report, adding that the body of the man was not recovered until 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

The man was found in a place which is over 100 meters deep from where he fell off, said rescuers.

The man killed in the incident is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s and he had been on a holiday with her wife in the mountain area, according to the report.

Details about the couple are not mentioned in the report.

The man's body has been shifted to University Hospital Kerry and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of his death, said the report.

Located in Ireland's southwest County Kerry, Carrauntoohil is the highest mountain in the island of Ireland with a height of 1,038 meters. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Ireland, annually attracting large numbers of tourists and mountaineers.
